Hello, my name is Alvaro Calleja, I’m an Electronic Design Engineer and I have just joined today the group of Superconducting Materials and Nanostructure at Large Scale at ICMAB. My tasks are related to the development of electronic control and monitoring systems for the project of Development of a New Generation of Electric Generators with Superconducting Coils, within of Teresa Puig’s group and under the supervision of Dr. Xavier Granados. Our project manager, Dr. Mar Tristany, has participated in the PAN EUROPEAN NMP CLUSTER VISION2020 organized by LEITAT the 31st October in Terrassa. The event focused on addressing the Horizon 2020 NMP2014 calls for proposals, and included talks by several invited speakers from Vision 2020, the EU and industry. During the Open Brokerage Session, we presented some proposal ideas for the NMP Calls 2015.

Our PhD student Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Rosillo has attended to the 6th Spanish Workshop in Nanolithography meeting (NANOLITO 2014) which was held in Zaragoza at the Instituto de Nanociencia de Aragon facilities. He presented a poster entitled “Resistive Switching phenomena in La1-xSrxMnO3-y compounds: a local probe microscopy study”. The picture is a night view of the Catedral del Pilar in Zaragoza.

On September 8th 2014, the student Jorge Silva from Lisbon (Portugal) arrived to SUMAN group to develop his thesis from his 5-year Integrated Master in Electrical Engineering and Computers (Bachelor (3) + Master (2)), which he is completing in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. This program is mostly known as Erasmus Placement or Erasmus Professional.
He will be working on “Modelling of Superconducting Bulks and Stacks for Electrical Machines Application” under the supervision of Dr. Xavier Granados during the next 6 months.

Zilian Li from China, after obtaining his master’s degree of Materials Science in University of Science and Technology of Beijing, joined SUMAN group to start his PhD thesis on “Fast growth of nanostructured coated conductors from chemical solutions” under the supervision of Dr. Mariona Coll and Prof. Xavier Obradors.
