Our PhD student Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Rosillo has attended to the 6th Spanish Workshop in Nanolithography meeting (NANOLITO 2014) which was held in Zaragoza at the Instituto de Nanociencia de Aragon facilities. He presented a poster entitled “Resistive Switching phenomena in La1-xSrxMnO3-y compounds: a local probe microscopy study”. The picture is a night view of the Catedral del Pilar in Zaragoza.

On September 8th 2014, the student Jorge Silva from Lisbon (Portugal) arrived to SUMAN group to develop his thesis from his 5-year Integrated Master in Electrical Engineering and Computers (Bachelor (3) + Master (2)), which he is completing in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologias from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. This program is mostly known as Erasmus Placement or Erasmus Professional.
He will be working on “Modelling of Superconducting Bulks and Stacks for Electrical Machines Application” under the supervision of Dr. Xavier Granados during the next 6 months.
Welcome Jorge!
Zilian Li from China, after obtaining his master’s degree of Materials Science in University of Science and Technology of Beijing, joined SUMAN group to start his PhD thesis on “Fast growth of nanostructured coated conductors from chemical solutions” under the supervision of Dr. Mariona Coll and Prof. Xavier Obradors. Welcome Ziliang!
Jose Antonio Peña, student on the last year of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology degree (UAB), has joined SUMAN group to do the final year degree project on “Growth of YBCO layers on CZO buffered substrates” under the supervision of Dr. Cornelia Pop.
Welcome Jose Antonio!
During July 2014, Dr. Jaume Gazquez visited Oak Ridge National Laboratory to work with the STEM Group on complex oxides interfaces by means of aberration corrected scanning electron microscopy techniques.
From 21st to 27th of July, Dr. Anna Palau visited the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II at Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin to perform X-PEEM space resolved magnetic measurements in hybrid superconductor-magnetic systems.
During the first semester of 2014 we hosted two visitor students from the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology degree from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona to complete their final degree work. Jordi Antoja’s work concerned “Towards nanofabricated pinning sites in high-Tc superconducting thin films based on the Resistive Switching phenomenon” under the supervision of Dr. Anna Palau. Gerard Pedreira was devoted to “Growth and characterization of thin oxides films with Resistive Switching properties”, supervised by Dr. Narcís Mestres.
Zack Khayat, student of Materials Science and Engineering at Pennsylvania State University from the group of Susan Trolier-McKinstry, spent three months in our laboratories to work on “Growth and characterization of Atomic Layer Deposited BiFeO3 for Energy Applications” under the supervision of Dr. Mariona Coll.
