Artur Romanov awarded (twicely!) at the Applied Superconducivity Conference 2020
The Applied Superconductivity Conference 2020 conference awarded Artur Romanov, PhD researcher at our group, on 5 November 2020, the third prize in the materials section of the Student Paper Contest and additonally the Alexander Shikov memorial award for design and manufacturing of “LTS and HTS Conductors”.
This year the Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC) 2020 Virtual Conference took place between October 24 and November 7, 2020.
In order to participate at the Applied Superconductivity Conference (ASC) Best Student Paper Contest contestants (PhD researchers in the field of superconductivity) were required to submit a 2-page extended abstract. The extended abstracts in each of the three areas (Large Scale, Materials, and Electronics) were evaluated by three panels of judges who are experts in the respective areas.
Up to six submissions were selected as finalists in each category. The finalists were asked to make an oral presentation at a Student Competition session. Each finalist had 15 minutes to deliver the presentation and 5 minutes to answer questions from the panel and the audience. The panel of judges evaluated each finalist using (a) the submitted extended abstract, (b) the oral presentation at the Student Competition session, and (c) answers to questions following the oral presentations.
This year the competition had 21 contestants in Electronics, 16 in Materials and 18 in Large Scale.
Up to three prizes were awarded in each category. The first, second, and the third prizes in each of the three categories included a $750, $500, and $250 monetary award. Support by the IEEE Council on Superconductivity allows these awards to be presented even under the present circumstance of the virtual conference.
In addition, special $500 memorial awards were established: Alexander Shikov award for best paper in the “LTS and HTS Conductors” category, sponsored by JSC “TVEL” and A. A. Bochvar High – Technology Research Institute of Inorganic Materials (JSC VNIINM), and two Victor Keilin awards for innovations in magnet science and technology, and for development of superconducting materials for large-scale applications, sponsored by Friends of Victor Keilin.
Artur Romanov won the third prize of the Best Student Paper in Materias and the Alexander Shikov award for the Best Student Paper in Materias on design and manufacturing of LTS and HTS Conductors, for his presentation entitled “REBa2Cu3O7-x coated conductors as promising candidates for the FCC-hh collider beam screan coating”.
